Medicine early Georgia, 1844-1894.

The collection consists of three manuscript notebooks relating to successive generations of medical development in the nineteenth century that give an interesting perspective on the art of healing during that period. Probably all three items belonged to members of the Jonas/DeRenne family. They are: 1.) Scrapbook containing pasted cut outs from George B. Wood's Syllabus of the course of lectures on materia medica and pharmacy (Philadelphia, 1844) with numerous annotations and additional prescriptions, remedies, cures, and notes on symptoms ; 2.) ca. 1867 commonplace notes (unbound) including several elaborate remedies along with miscellaneous quotes and notations on a variety of subjects ; 3.) Physician's visiting list 1894 put out by AntiKamnia Chemical Company with prescriptions and medicines listed, but very little pertinent manuscript notes.
